Discussion

Tina Vonhof (X) Apr 11, 2008:
You would need to see the question in order to make sense of the answer. Considering that it's about toilet paper, what the person may be trying to say is that the company should take care of the environment and that they should practice reforestation.
vic voskuil Apr 11, 2008:
(ouch...that's indeed an awkward goof... but the source does say 'ze'...;)
Margreet Logmans (X) Apr 11, 2008:
I think the first comments by Ken and Vic are what you need here. I'd say: get creative :-) As an alternative, the answerer (why would it be SHE?!?) may think the toilet paper guys plant new trees for every tree they flush...
Ken Cox Apr 11, 2008:
agree with vic -- once you're well lubricated, the translation should just drip off your fingers (in a manner of speaking). I've stopped doing survey response translations because it requires too much guesswork.
vic voskuil Apr 11, 2008:
maybe that is also the right approach for proper translation of the above ;)
Robert Allwood (asker) Apr 11, 2008:
Well, the source document has 'Back' in the name, but the many typos in it argue against a backtranslation, and look more like people doing an online survey at home after a few beers!
drboer Apr 11, 2008:
Ken Cox Apr 11, 2008:
(with allowance for erratic spelling ;-) )
Ken Cox Apr 11, 2008:
maybe the asker confused propagate in the sense of breed and propagate in the sense of promote
vic voskuil Apr 11, 2008:
don't worry, it isn't you: this answer makes no sense whatsoever. She probably means beschermen/behouden/ondersteunen/preserve, and then a nice positive word with "plant" and "voor" jumped to mind :)

that they are concerned with re(af)forestation

I m o, the "ze" in the sentence refers to the manufacturers of the toilet paper. Answerer means that she/he considers that the manufacturers are concerned with the environment and that for each tree they cut down, they plant a new one.

Translation: "I suppose they care about the environment and make sure to replant the forests (they cut down)."

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Well you get the points, as the only formal answer! Thanks for all the comments. I actually said ' I think nature is taken into account and that they protect nature' and put 'or and what nature produces' in the Comments column."
