Dutch term

koppelingseis

Dutch to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) company survey
From the same survey into retailers' debit card contracts with banks. The context is :De meeste respondenten sloten echter hun nieuwe contract af bij de huisbank en aangezien men daar al de (meeste) diensten afneemt speelde deze
koppelingseis bij het sluiten van een nieuw pincontract niet. Some kind of requirement?

Discussion

Ken Cox Feb 27, 2005:
Hi Rebekah, then Rob's suggestion appears to be on the money, but I'm not sure of the exact English terminology. The 'koppelingseis' is the demand by the bank that the customer do additional business with the bank in order to obtain a PIN contract.
Non-ProZ.com Feb 27, 2005:
Hi Kenneth, here is the preceding sentence. Not much more context as this is a separate section of the results of a market research survey.

In 9% van de gevallen waarin een onderneming met een bank over een nieuw pincontract heeft onderhandeld, heeft de bank als voorwaarde voor het pincontract de afname van andere diensten gesteld.
Ken Cox Feb 27, 2005:
Since 'deze koppelingseis' apparently refers to something prior to this sentence, the preceding context would be helpful.

demand/requirement for conditional service(s)

The idea of 'koppelen' in this phrase is mainly related to expressions like 'koppelverkoop' = conditional sale(s)

'demand' might be slightly more 'klantvriendelijk than 'requirement'

Several options may, depending on further context, be more helpful.

demand for additional services
demand for (an)extra/additional contract(s)/service(s)

\'demand for additional business/contract\' (<-- seems to be in line with Kenneth\'s comments!?)
Peer comment(s):

agree Deborah do Carmo : in other words because the client will already have the majority of its dealings at the "huisbank" the suspensive condition for obtaining a PIN contract is already met//mij plezier zoals altijd ;-)
