Danish term

loftkrone

This is a light fitting for the ceiling, but is there a better translation. Does anyone have any good online resources for Danish>English for art, design, and antiques

Check out www.bellacor.com, they show something called semi-flush....you might be able to find some new terminologies there. I also found some really cool light fixtures for my house! :)

Thanks both for your help, but I'm afraid neither answer is suitable. I am looking for something in between a medallion and a chandelier. It does not fit flat onto the ceiling and it does not hang like a chandelier. It is not a pendant either. The problem is that there are many terms and they are not consistently applied.
Rebecca Barath Jan 29, 2006:
Well, my first inclination was to agree with Blangsted, because I thought they were ceiling medallions, but then I checked Google & the chandeliers showed up!!! Hmmmmm
Jande Jan 29, 2006:
Is there a mix-up with lysekrone and loftkrone? It seems on websites when you search for loftkrone, you actually get lysekroner and loftkrone isn't in the standard dictionaries. Are they referring to the fitting or the actual light?

chandelier

I know this is probably not what you are looking for , but when I googled loftkrone all types of lamps came up and they are both chandeliers or lights, all of this on a danish website..... and since chandelier can be made of many materials maybe....

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I decided to go with ceiling-light installation. It is a bit unweildy, but it seems the best in this particular context. 2 points to Rebecca though because Bellacor featured tens of thousands of lights "

ceiling medallion

My first inclination was to call it a ceiling crown, but that appears to be something different. You probably already checked that one out through google.

I then realized in art you might be talking about this one:
