English to French: Saving children from HIV in rural Togo
Source text - English Aida first became aware of her HIV positive status in 2009, when her then youngest child died, just two years of age. It was later confirmed that her child had died of AIDS related complications. Aida was then tested for HIV.
Once Aida’s HIV status was confirmed, she received support from West Naki Health Centre’s resident midwife, Kanfetine. Kanfetine has worked at the Health Centre for several years and was trained on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT) by UNICEF. Kanfetine’s training included information on the importance of carrying out systematic testing of pregnant women, how to counsel an HIV positive patient, the importance of confidentiality and the use of anti-retroviral treatment, especially for pregnant and breast-feeding women.
Translation - French Aida a eu connaissance de son statut sérologique en 2009, à la mort de son plus jeune enfant, alors âgé d’à peine deux ans. Plus tard, il a été confirmé que son enfant est mort des suites de complications liées au sida. Aida a ensuite subi le test de dépistage du VIH.
Une fois son statut sérologique confirmé, Aida a reçu le soutien de Kanfetine, sage-femme en poste au Centre de Santé de Naki Ouest. Kanfetine travaille depuis plusieurs années au Centre de Santé et a été formée sur la prévention de la transmission du VIH / SIDA de la mère à l'enfant (PTME) par l'UNICEF. La formation de Kanfetine a porté entre autres sur l'importance du dépistage systématique des femmes enceintes, les conseils à prodiguer à un patient séropositif, l'importance de la confidentialité et l'utilisation de traitements antirétroviraux, en particulier pour les femmes enceintes et allaitantes.
