One of my customers has switched workflow and now requiers me to use Studio for their translations. I have never had this problem before so I'm not quite sure where it comes from.
I am currently using SDL Trados Studio 2014 Freelance 11.2.4453.12. When I load the termbase (which is provided as a Microsoft Access Database), I get a message saying something like "This termbase was created with an older version of MultiTerm. It must be updated. This can take several minutes. Would you like to continue opening TermBases?" (perhaps not the exact wording in English, I'm using the French version). I then click on "yes" and end up with two warning messages saying "Value cannot be null, parameter name: key" (same message in two different windows). I then click on OK and then get a message saying something like "Cannot connect default TermBase"". Automatic term recognition was therefore deactivated". If I try loading the Termbase again, it loads it without any error messages... but then I notice that a. no terms are recognised and the Term recognition window on the top right-hand side stays empty b. the term list in the window on the left-hand side does not include terms that I know are included in the customer's termbase.
There's obviously something wrong, but I don't know what and what to do about it. Could you give me some guidance please?
Thanks! ▲ Collapse | | |

Hi Fiona,
Thank you for the information.
Please note that we do not support Microsoft Access. The termbase will need to be given in a format that we support.
Kind regards,
Guillaume

Poisson rouge Germany Local time: 23:58 German to French + ... TOPIC STARTER Glossaries CAN be partially uploaded! | Jun 15, 2016 |
Hi Guillaume,
Thanks for your answer. I am a bit surprised as a. my customer is a. Trados user and can open these glossaries with no trouble whatsoever b. I manage to upload the glossaries but notice they are not complete. How can that be if Access isn't supported? Is there any way round this by using MultiTerm to convert first or by using a plug-in?
Best wishes | | |
Dear Fiona,
Access is a very old format (.mdb) which is very rarely used nowadays and but which were supported with old legacy versions of SDL Trados 2007
However with the release of Studio and the fact ACCESS is very rarely used support was dropped as more modern formats are in use.
To give a 100% answer we would need to see the file- could you send it to me please.
Another option maybe to rename the file .sdltb but there are no guarentees for this.

Hi Guillaume,
Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately, I cannot send you the file for confidentiality reasons. Replacing the extension did not work either. My customer can open the glossaries in Studio without any problem and all terms are there. The company uses Studio 2014 but 2014 SP2 - 11.2.4422.11, whereas I used version 11.2.4453.12 - could this explain that only they can upload the complete glossary?
