Although potential retirement is still a long way off for me, I shall proably never retire since I doubt I'll be able to afford to. The best I can hope for in my sixties and seventies is part-time work. My mother (aged 70) still works full-time in an office. I think that in the future (at least in Europe), full retirement will be considered more of a luxury than is currently the case and will not be possible for everyone.

If it was only up to me, I would not mind to retire immediately.
It is not that I hate what I do now, but the idea that I could do whatever I want (including translating) without the necessity to earn a certain amount of money looks particularly appealing to me.
However considering the turn the economy is taking and the way our money is being gambled, I doubt that I could ever retire but in my dream....

These days Italy, even if freelancers must pay about 27,5% of their income to the Inps state pension fund, their average estimate retriment age is just under 5 years after they die.

I'm not planning on retiring, not yet, anyway! Retirement seems soooo far away right now. Unless I win the lottery, of course... but that's quite unlikely to happen since I never buy tickets.

I don't plan on retiring, it's more like I don't think I'll be able to afford it but the true answer is "when I win the lottery", then translation would be more of a hobby.

I'm too young to make any particular plans, but I've always thought that I will continue working far after reaching the average retirement age. There are so much opportunities: to translate, interpret, to teach, to do some research. Why would I want to stop?

I am still young and I love what I do, so retiring isn't in my plans. Of course, I wouldn't mind knowing that I don't have to work and that I can do whatever I want, like choosing when to work and what to translate. This requires a certain financial security, which isn't here at the moment. Plus, the local law on retirements orientates towards the age of 67, so I still have a nice 35 years to go, while the retirement age is likely to change further... I would certainly like not to have to work when I have children, as raising a child is a full-time job on its own, but I don't think it's likely to happen. That's truly admiring! Muriel. Having some time to do some work, even little paid or simply meaningful, can be a life attitude to move on.

I am only 49 next birthday. Both my parents are in their mid-70s and still compos mentis, so I see no reason why I would be any different in (OMG!) 2034 and a few years beyond that.
Coincidentally, in e-mail correspondence with a friend last night, I effectively laid out my professional bucket list for the next 11 years, which if achieved, will take care of the 10 years after that.
Quite apart from considerations of physical/mental capability, I foresee having to earn my own living indefinitely.
The proverb says, "There is no rest for the wicked", but fails to mention there is no rest for the rest of us either!
