Hi there, I am having problems viewing part of a .docx file and I can't work out while. I am not a computer wizard, I am sure it's due to something really trivial but I am really struggling.
Page 1 and 2 of this document come out wonderfully as a printed document, I can see the text clearly in 'print preview', however, if I view the file 'normally' the text disappears. This happens only with the first 2 pages, the rest of the document is fine. I have gone into tools- options and ... Any ideas?
Thanks in advance ▲ Collapse
Just an idea. Select the whole doc and chage the font color. | | | Debora Villa United Kingdom Local time: 05:41 English to Italian + ... TOPIC STARTER
Thanks for the suggestion, I tried that but no luck. I think these 2 pages are text boxes, still no clue as to why it's doing what it does. Thanks anyway![](https://cfcdn.proz.com/images/bb/smiles/icon_smile.gif) | | | Jack Doughty United Kingdom Local time: 05:41 Russian to English + ... With those two pages in print mode, zoom from print mode size to 100% (or 150%, which is what I normally use).

This has happened to me a few times. One solution, which seems perverse at first, is to convert the file to PDF. This normally reveals any such hidden text.
Then convert PDF file by Save as Text in Adobe Reader, then copy and paste into a new Word document. You will need to join up the words, and tidy it up, but you should now have all the text. You may wish to charge extra for this extra work.

Thanks for your advise, the problem I have is that, as I am due to proofread this file, I really need to be able to work on the current document. I can go on print preview and zoom in, that allows me so see the text but not to change it which is really what I am after. I am not sure if it is a Vista problem. Thanks anyway for your time. | | | Claire Cox United Kingdom Local time: 05:41 French to English + ... Tools View Options | Sep 24, 2009 |
I don't have Vista but in XP this can sometimes be because some box is ticked under Tools View Options (Hidden text or field codes perhaps?) Have you tried checking any of those and seeing if that makes a difference? Presumably you've tried the different view options on the main Word toolbar? I usually work in print layout view as that shows all the diagrams, text boxes etc in the right place.

Sometimes, when the text is framed, it cannot be viewed in normal view. Have you tried print view, or web view, to check if you can see it?
That's all I can think of. Good luck there!

... the texts on the first two pages are in text boxes, you cannot see them in normal view as long as in Tools > Settings > Appearance the Pictures box is unchecked (but they appear in preview mode). Does it help if you check that box?

.. did you try to select these two "invisible" pages and paste them into a new document? What happens when you do it? Good luck - it happened to me once | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Help!
