Hi Everyone!
I'm French, established in Mainz since 2007 and I would like to change my career and start up in translation. I have a full-tine job here.
One way is to get a Bachelor, then a Master in e-learning with an accredited French university (English Studies option Translation). It's cheap, recognised and I can keep my job and stay in Germany.

I wanted to ask you guys if you knew of an alternative for me to get a Diplom in Germany, if possible with the option of distance learning, where the German language is not part of the equation. I love living in Germany and the language is interesting, but my progress is poor (I would say I have a level B1 in German).
Alternatively German could be considered as a third language. I mean, I can have a simple conversation, but I lack grammar, vocabulary and "feeling" for the language to, for example, read an article in a newspaper type "Welt" or "Spiegel" and fully understand it.
Any advice / comments you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
LG,

Does this really exist? As far as I'm concerned, there is no such degree in France (or I would have done it / be doing it). In Germany, the only option to do a distance learning degree is with the AKAD, and it's not even a degree: it's a course preparing to the sworn translator examination. To be honest, I don't think you will find anything in Germany without German... There are various distance learning degrees in England doing French and English but French is usually a source language not a target language. But on the other hand, why not? Otherwise there are various options to prepare the IOL examinations, and you can definitely find an option encluding French and English only.
Good luck

and thanks for your answer.
It does exist, indeed, check this www.univ-paris3.fr/MEBRAMPC/0/fiche___formation/&RH=1179925890675. It's not the ESIT school, but I can only study with e-learning, given my full-time job in Frankfurt. So that will have to do, I guess.

After studying, I think I will register in several agencies, it does not matter where you are based, right? They could be in UK and their Thai client wants this to be translated in French: as long as I can prove I am not cheating the German State, it can be done, can't it? ▲ Collapse | | | German forum? | May 15, 2009 |
Hello,
Since you both speak French, what about continuing this discussion in French in the French forum or in English in another English forum?
