Compatibility Windows 7 and Trados 7 Thread poster: Eleni Makantani

Hello,
Could anyone tell me whether Windows 7 is compatible with Trados 7 (that is the second oldest version of Trados - not Studio 2009, nor Suite 2007, the version right before that)?
Many thanks!

Dear Eleni,
I have recently bought a notebook with Windows 7 and I installed Trados 7, but I can't see the tool bar in Word. I have tried lots of things, but it doesn't work. I am thinking about changing to Windows 2003, as a friend adviced mo to do. Good luck to you!! | | | OS vs. Office | Apr 18, 2010 |
The reason why you're having trouble, Natalia, is that you have Office 2007 on there, and AFAIK Trados 7 won't work with Office 2007. You can either work in Tageditor or install Office 2003 (or 2002).
You'll probably have to uninstall Office 2007, install 2003 and then manually place the Trados .dot files in the startup folder of Office 2003. | |

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with me.
I have a backup laptop, with Windows Vista installed, but I haven't been able to use it as I would like to, because my Vista was at a very early version (a couple of months after its first release) and it made the machine very slow and unstable. I was now considering to downgrade to XP and then I thought why not upgrade to Windows 7 instead?

As regards your problem, Natalia, I assume that with a new notebook you are using MS Office 2007. As far as I know, Trados 7 isn't compatible with MS Word 2007. You either need to use a newer version of Trados or an older version of Word.
Anyway, I'll wait for more input by colleagues. Thanks again!

You may try this:
In Word, go to File > Options > Add-Ins > Manage > select Word Add-Ins AND Templates, they will both have to have Trados8.dotm and Multiterm8.dot checked, i.e. turned on.
This is for Word Office 2007 or above.
Hope this helps, it shows Trados toolbar in my Windows 7 that way. My Trados version is the latest one though. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Compatibility Windows 7 and Trados 7 Anycount & Translation Office 3000 | Translation Office 3000
