S/He hooks a turn of choked logs to a hook suspended below the helicopter on the end of a “drop line” or “tag line”.

The Hooker works on forested slopes, gathering one or more “chokers”—each attached to a log—and then safely connects the chokers to a hook on the long-line suspended below a flying helicopter. Hooker directs a team of 2-5 choker setters, and uses a radio to guide a helicopter’s flying movements to hook logs. A choker is a noose of strong cable (wire rope), which is secured around a log by hooking one-end of the cable noose to a bell that slides & cinches around the log end.
