It is fairly common for publishers to edit books without consulting with the authors about the changes. Sometimes the changes are substantial and can be very upsetting to the authors. An "author-focused, transparent editorial process" implies that the publisher will work with the author during the editing process, taking the author's opinions into account and not surprising him in the end with a finished product that makes him wish he never wrote the book. The author may also have a say in the cover-art, illustrations, and other features of the book. In other words, respect for the author's vision for the book is maintained throughout the entire editorial process.
