Announcing Connect improvements for August

23 August 2007

In our continuing effort to deliver the features and improvements our users have requested, we are pleased to announce the following updates to ProZ.com Connect.

  • Introduction of language variants, such as "French (Canada)"
  • Re-use a previous job/search as a template
  • Search CVs for keywords
  • Simple document management (beta) - upload and share test translations and project files

Introduction of language variants

It is now possible to specify common language variants (such as "France (Canada)" or "Chinese (Simplified)") when defining the language requirements for your need or project. The chosen language variants are shown to potential candidates as additional information about your project. (Note that we don't restrict notifications or search queries based on language variants, but the information is made available so that interested parties can make informed decisions.)

These are the first, basic steps at introducing support for language variants into the system, so only the most common language variants are currently supported. If you have a need for a language variant that is not yet available, please let us know.

Re-use a previous job/search as a template

To save time when defining a new need or project, it is now possible to copy the entire contents of a previous need or project, including requirements, descriptions, and questionnaires, and then use that as a template for a new need or project. Then you only need to edit the information that is different for the new project.

Search CVs for keywords

It is now possible to search for keywords in CVs uploaded by potential candidates to their ProZ.com profiles. To use this new option, select the "Keywords in CV/profile" requirement when defining your need or project.

Simple document management (beta)

A simple document management system is available for beta testing. This feature can be used to upload a test translation, and to receive the translated document when eligible candidates submit their quote. It can also be used to share project files with accepted candidates or internally within your organization.

We thrive on your feedback

Each of these improvements is the result of suggestions and feedback from Connect users and other members. We extend our thanks to all who have helped improve Connect through their participation. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for improvements, please let us know. You can contact us by submitting this feedback form, or by sending email to [email protected].

Announcing Connect user interface enhancements

20 September 2007

We are pleased to announce improvements to several elements of the Connect user interface. We hope these changes will make the system more intuitive and useful, and enable you to get your work done more quickly.

  • Dynamic search and requirements page (beta)
  • New interface for specifying data about needs or projects
  • New job posting page

Dynamic search and requirements page (beta)

We have overhauled the Connect "start" page and removed several steps from the search process. With this new interface, as you define your requirements you will see a list of language professionals who meet those requirements, updated in real time using dynamic Web 2.0 techniques. You can then contact candidates directly from this page, or post a job to those who qualify. To try out a beta version of this new interface, please click here: http://connect.proz.com/connect/find

New interface for specifying data about needs or projects

It is no longer necessary to define your need or project before you begin your search. A new tool is available which allows you to quickly and easily specify data about your project at whenever it is convenient for you during your search process--for example, before posting a job, or sending a "request for quote message". This new tool provides guidance in defining your project, allows you to create a custom screening questionnaire, and upload project files or test translations, all via a dynamic Web 2.0 interface.

New job posting page

The job posting page has also been streamlined and updated, so that it is faster and easier to create job postings.

Please tell us what you think

Please try out these new interfaces and let us know how well they succeed at making your Connect experience easier and faster. And as always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for improvements, we want to hear from you. Please contact us by by submitting this feedback form, or sending email to [email protected].
